Privacy Policy

Checkpoint ("we," "our," or "us") is a family task and agreement app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

What we collect

Account information

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password. Co-parents who join via invite code also provide this information.

Family and child information

Parents provide information about their children to help personalize the app experience. This includes:

• Child's name and date of birth
• Learning profile notes (e.g., ADHD, dyslexia) — optional
• Motivations, preferences, and household expectations — optional

This information is stored securely and used only to generate personalized agreements and adapt the app's language and complexity for each child.

Task and agreement data

We store the agreements, completions, rewards, and verification records you create within the app.

Photos

When a child submits a photo as task verification, that photo is stored in our secure database and is only visible to the parent(s) in that family.

Apple Health data

If you enable HealthKit verification for a task, Checkpoint reads step count, move goals, or exercise minutes from Apple Health on the child's device. This data is used only to verify the specific task and is not stored beyond what is needed for that verification.

Device and usage data

We collect basic usage and error logs to improve the app. This does not include any personally identifiable information.

How we use your information

• To operate and deliver the app's features
• To generate AI-powered agreement suggestions (via Anthropic's Claude API — see below)
• To send push notifications about task completions and reminders (if enabled)
• To process rewards and track points

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising.

AI features

Checkpoint uses Anthropic's Claude API to generate personalized agreement suggestions. When you use AI features, relevant family context (values, child age, motivations) is sent to Anthropic's API. This data is subject to Anthropic's privacy policy. We do not send children's names or identifiable information — only anonymized context.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

Checkpoint is designed to be used by parents on behalf of their children. The child-facing screens are used under parental supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.

Parents have full control over all data entered about their children and may delete it at any time by contacting us or deleting their account in the app.

Data storage and security

All data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL), hosted on AWS infrastructure. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Each family's data is isolated by row-level security policies.

Your rights

You may at any time:

• Request a copy of your data
• Correct inaccurate information
• Delete your account and all associated data (available directly in the app under Settings → Delete Account)

Data retention

We retain your data as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all family data, child profiles, agreements, and photos are permanently deleted within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

We will notify you of material changes to this policy via email or in-app notice.
